SOMA Bodywork

SOMA® Bodywork

One component of a healthy lifestyle is the ability to embody the process of growth and change in our lives, both physically and mentally. SOMA, through an eleven-session format, facilitates our ability to respond creatively to an ever-changing environment. SOMA is a structural system of bodywork that works by way of the facial (connective tissue) network, to release structural aberrations and chronic compensations and effectively realign the entire body.

SOMA Neuromuscular Integration® affects both the structural and neurological systems. Changes in structure are accomplished primarily through manipulation of fascia and muscles. Since body and mind are inseparable, work in each area affects the other, so structural improvement influences neurological change for a holistic response.

The body gradually rebalances itself, becoming more efficient with greater resistance to injury - people often notice increased coordination, ease and grace. The result is a body that can process experiences more effectively, with greater awareness, which leads to enhanced learning and perceptual abilities. Qualities like self-reliance and creativity emerge spontaneously.

Loss of agility to move and change our bodies or our thinking diminishes us. SOMA can soften some of our hard wiring and allow us to access more somatic options. Client and practitioner are partners, not toward “fixing” or creating a "perfect person", but by evolving our patterns, moving towards a less predictable, more authentic individual who has access to more of their self.

"A great revolution in just a single person will help achieve a change in the destiny of a nation and, further, will cause a change in the destiny of all humankind."                                     Daisaku Ikeda
